About Us

Lu's Place is a contemporary café nestled in Meltham, Holmfirth, incorporating an industrial yet stylish aesthetic.

The Lu’s Place name and giraffe branding originated from the owner’s mum, Lucy, who has always had a love and passion for animals. The local farm where Lucy resides is home to a variety of animals ranging from horses to goats, swans, a cockatoo, and even a ponkey (half pony and half donkey!) Surprisingly no giraffe’s though… yet!

We pride ourselves on being unique and offering facilities and a service that no others in the area do, making the giraffe the perfect representation for our branding.

Whether you're seated in our café area with jungle vibe, cool glasshouse with retractable roof and windows, luxury VIP pod, or our terrace dining area overlooking the woodland, Lu's Place is the perfect venue to meet, eat, and relax.

We have an array of delicious dishes served from our open kitchen, from a hearty breakfast or brunch through to a mouth-watering lunch, you can enjoy a menu that satisfies the most judicious tastebuds.

The Cafè

On entering Lu’s, you will find our café area with a mix of tables, our host desk, bar, and open kitchen.

The café gives a real feeling of dining in a jungle with drapes of leaves and ropes hanging from the roof, velvet green seating, and our huge giraffe feature chandelier offering ambient lighting.

The perfect place to enjoy a catch up with friends and family over breakfast, brunch, or lunch.

The Glasshouse

The Glasshouse is where you can get cosy during the winter months, or sit back and soak up the sunshine during the summer with a glass of wine or fizz.

Offering stunning views through our panoramic opening windows and retractable roof (the first of its kind in the area!), making it the perfect place to enjoy lunch with family, friends or just the dogs.

Be sure to bring your sunglasses on sunny days!

VIP Pod

Lu’s VIP Pod gives you a real feel of dining in the outdoors. This quirky, oval shaped, oak framed pod features an in built bluetooth music system, a heater, lighting, and comfy lounge seating.

With its all-round windows, enjoy 360-degree views, see and ‘be seen’. The Pod can seat up to 6 guests making it the perfect place to enjoy an intimate birthday, baby shower or purely a catch up with friends!

Be sure to bring your sunglasses on sunny days!

The pod is not suitable for guests with accessibility requirements or infants that require a highchair.

A £10 fee will be applied to all pod bookings.

THE TERRACE

The Terrace features a fixed glass canopy structure overlooking the woodland edge of the site.

With its clear roller blinds (lowered during the cooler months to keep the weather out), comfortable 4-seater tables, Bose sound system, fairy lights, and self-controlled infrared heaters, this dog friendly area can be enjoyed all year round. Reservations can be made in advance using the bookings tab.

We also have an outdoor coffee table and an Astroturf area containing several cool swing benches that are available on a walk-in basis, topped off with a giant Connect 4 to keep the kids entertained.

FESTIVE MARQUEE

Our all-new seasonal pop-up space is available from 29th November 2024 - 1st January 2025.

Whether it's a small corporate event, family celebration, or get-together, our festive marquee offers a comfortable space without the chill.

This heated, modern 10m x 4.5m marquee with its clear walls and roof, situated on our outdoor swing bench area linked with the main building creates an extended relaxed and cosy space in which to enjoy the magic of Lu’s Place and superior service provided by our team. Beautifully dressed, with Christmas decorations, twinkling lights, a giant sit on Santa sleigh (perfect for pictures), bench seating with furry hides, cosy blankets and more we are confident our customers will love this space.

Best of all, it’s available for exclusive hire at no cost (minimum 12 guests), ideal if anyone needs to make a speech or the kids prefer an area to play whilst the grown-ups enjoy a festive tipple.
